About Me

I’m Thierry Vermeire. I’m a Belgium Award winning photographer specialised in New Branding Fine Art Child Portraiture. Started as self-taught photographer , my story starts with a workshop ‘Fine Art Portraiture’ organized by Anna Ajtner with her daughter Sandra as model. This was an eye-opener. Having much experience with children during whole my live I found out that ‘Fine Art Child Portraiture’ would really be my ‘thing’. My photographic style can be called conceptual: building up a whole scenery with old props and clothes I search in second hands shops, and try to recreate an episode of movies and tv-series I did like so much: Lord of the Rings, l’Amica Geniale, … While learning how to work better with Photoshop, I started compositing to make imaginary worlds even more spectacular. My photographic style can also be called emotional, stylish and simple: I love to shoot dancers, ballerina’s, gymnasts, flexible … focusing on the 'human body', on the artistic in the body lines in a human and to show how elegant and graceful they can be. At this stage I have requests from dancers and gymnasts from the greatest dance and gymnastics schools in Belgium and abroad to do a shoot with them. But most of all my style can be called contemporary and experimental: what can be more stunning than shooting my model, half girl, half clay statue, taking a pose only she can do. What is more stunning then using props so that my pictures become surrealistic. Also stunning is letting my gymnast take a jump so that the powder on her flies off in such an elegant way. The summit is making a new background by myself and do a full body paint on my model, so that she disappears in the background. Most important: I do this shoot together with my models. I aim to reach the heart of my models, the children. We do the shoot as long as they really can identify themselves in the role I like them to be in. And when they do, I try to capture them in the fullness of their beauty, individuality and dignity, approaching, grasping the secret of the forever lost childhood. We always have so much fun. Without exception, all of them want to come back later for a new shoot. And nice for me, at this moment I have a waiting list of top-dancers, gymnasts, models, local and abroad who wants to come to my studio. I hope to continue being creative for a long time.
